Zaun (Not) Gone for the Year (Yet)?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

It seems so. Zaun reportedly has a torn labrum and will need surgery that will keep him out 4-6 months…so yeah…the season.

Maybe on the DL, it'll be "Bring Your ZZZZ-Game"

That means that the youth movement progresses with Kottaras, who started only 25 games in the majors before this season, and Lucroy, who didn’t start a major league game until yesterday. While that may seem like a downer, I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Kottaras and Lucroy looked alright last night (other than pi$$ing off all the pitchers…ha).  So anyone wanna guess how this plays out over the season? Does it hurt the pitching staff not to have a veteran presence? Will it help the team with faster, younger players behind the plate who have been getting on base?

UPDATE: Zaun has decided not to have season ending surgery at this point, but we will see how this affects him

Hall to Miss 4-6 Weeks

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Well, it looks like Bill Hall’s return to glory had a rough start.

According to Adam McCalvy, Hall partially tore his left calf muscle while conditioning. The injury will sideline Hall between 4-6 weeks, possibly prohibiting him from being ready for Opening Day.

As far as tears go, this could be much worse. But he’ll have to get healthy fast to match my preseason prediction of his numbers.

R U SRS?
The news just broke that SP Yovani Gallardo has torn his ACL as a result of the collision yesterday. He is likely out the remainder of the season.
This all could have been avoided if Reed Johnson didn’t slide head first into the bag like a douche. Then again, it’s Reed “Doucher” Johnson. Can you really expect anything different from this bush, hack?

Hard feelings aside, you can see this is brutal news for the Brewers. Baseball is a long, grinding season and injuries are inevitable…but this is a disaster. Nothing can derail a playoff push like a top starter hanging it up in May.
And maybe the worst part of it all - this makes it more likely that we will have to watch Jeff Weaver in the Brewer uni’s sometime this year.

Did I mention that Reed Johnson is a douche, bush hack?

First injury of camp…

Yovanni Gallardo

Gallardo might have torn knee cartilage. Ugh. An injury already? Fortunately it looks like it will be minor, but Haudricourt speculates that if the injury requires surgery, Gallardo would likely start the season on the DL. It seems to me that oftentimes these “minor” injuries in spring training turn out to be a lot bigger problems than teams let on at first. Hopefully Gallardo’s injury is actually minor and does not become a recurring problem. He will be a big part of the Brewers’ success this season.

The Brewers could still stand to deal a pitcher, but, as Melvin has said all offseason, having depth is nice. It’s just not feasible to keep as much depth as the Brewers have (barring substantial injuries and DL stints) since most of the players cannot be stashed in the minors. It will be a situation worth monitoring as spring training winds up.

Update: Gallardo will miss 4 weeks, likely start season on DL. That’s a bad way to start camp, but luckily it’s not too serious. Unfortunately, catcher prospect Lou Palmisano appears to be headed for a similar surgery, according to the post.

Kerry Wood Hurt Already…

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Not even a full day into Cubs spring training and Kerry Wood gets hurt already….falling out of a whirlpool or bathtub or something like that. Wow. My first thought was, well, it wasn’t a thought, but an outloud laugh at work. Second thought: “Damn, he only bruised himself.” Third thought: “damn, that is still hilarious!” It is only a matter of time before Wood and Prior miss significant time. No worries there.

First day of spring training in the books. Going to be a good year. Can’t wait to take it back next Saturday morning.
