Morning Ramble – 11/12

ESPN Rumors wondered aloud if Milwaukee would be interested in a Granderson-Edwin Jackson for prospects deal. My answer…no they wouldn’t…but the fantasy baseball dork in me would do it. Imagine an OF of Granderson, Braun, and Gomez (I’m guessing they’d have to trade Corey Hart, but again…no way in hell this is happening)

Speaking of deals that won’t happen, the Reds are apparently acting like they’re willing to part with Aaron Harang and Brandon Phillips. I would love Phillips on the team, but it won’t happen.

Johnny Lucroy is the early favorite to be the starter at catcher. I wouldn’t have the biggest problem with Lucroy and Rivera, but it would be a major concern to have two inexperienced backstops. Jared brought up a name that sounds a little better…Greg Zaun. I also like Yorvit Torrealba, but I have a hunch he wants more money than the Brewers are willing to pay.

I’m not the biggest fan of twitter, but this is my favorite twitter post: No one has heard from Ben Sheets or his agent, according to Brewers GM Doug Melvin. That’s right…Big Ben is MIA, hiding somewhere in the southern part of the United States probably still hurt.

Do these names on the Brewers pitching hot stove excite you? Doug Davis and Randy Wolf! Yeah…excites me about as much as another Saw movie. Well, Melvin has contacted both agents according to reports, so who knows…

Finally, in that’s hilarious news, the Pirates thought they’d make a pitch for JJ, and why not, but apparently offered the Brewers Fielder’s enemy MATT FREAKIN CAPPS. You may enjoy the rest of your day now.

I’d take Edwin Jackson and Granderson off the tigers hands for the right price….

Has St. Louis recovered from Lord Pujols not winning the Gold Glove yet? Their media already complained to the league offices that it’s not possible. He should have won a GG as an outfielder for all those catches he made in the outfield grass. Wainwright said he wouldn’t have had any errors if he didn’t have to unfairly pitch in the daytime, forcing him to have to look up into the sun to locate the ball sometimes.

    BigCat…nice. I thought the same thing…sorta. :)

I would hate Brandon Phillips on the team. I just hate him. No like Jared does, but still. Plus, crazy me, is holding out on Weeks…..STILL.

Wolf and Davis. Not excited. But better than Looper.

Honestly all of the pitchers Melvin is currently eyeballing I’d prefer to just risk it with our current pathetic staff. I mean Doug Davis and Washburn or one of those other Looper type of pitchers really make me cringe. If you want 2-5 more wins next year, yeah go for it. Those guys can get that easy. But contenders? No. Maybe not even wild card contenders. On WSSP they said if they went for those type of pitchers they’re just trying for 5 more wins and 3 million fans again. I tend to agree, but they need to get in win (or try your damnest to win) now mode.

….and I meant I agree to going for an ace or bust for the Brewers in order to get in win now mode. If not an ace then perhaps a bonafide #2 guy.

I still think Halladay is possible, he’s on the market at what I’m guessing a lot more reasonable price then last season.

Jon agrees with me more than other people on this site do. Nothing matters if you don’t win the world series. I have already forgot about the wild card and the fact they put the banner up is emberassing. I dont know what they need to do it doesnt seem as if they have an easy solution but when is the last time we took a chance or even did something creative?

Kade says ‘Nothing matters if you don’t win the world series.’ Funny story about that.

My wife is from NY, and when I started bringing her to Brewers game back in 2007 (which they celebrated the 82 team), she asked “what happened in 1982, did the Brewers win the world series?” You can imagine her reaction when I told her that they actually lost the world series that year. How many other teams celebrate the year they lost the world series.

Regardless, last year was a failure not because we didn’t win the world series, but rather we got worse despite the great years by Hoffman, Braun, Fielder, McGehee, Lopez (2nd half). Melvin went into 2009 with a #2 (Gallardo), three #4-5 pitchers (Parra,Looper,Bush), and a restaurant owner pretending to be a major league pitcher, and expected great things. I don’t think he’ll make the same mistake this year by adding just Davis, Wolf, etc.

It’s just bad you have to make moves or do something take some sort of risk please be creative just for twice in ur life
