Morning Ramble – 11/6

Now that the Yankees have finally won their damm World Series, and who didn’t see that one coming? (I love how all the news outlets are saying “Their first since all the way back in 2000″), we can finally get to some fun rumors and player movement.

J.J. Hardy

I haven’t updated the MR because I’m at a conference in Minneapolis. BUT I heard a rumor here and I had to post it, so here it is: J.J. Hardy to the Twins for Glen Perkins if the O-Dawg doesn’t re-sign. I checked it out and ESPN and MSN rumors have it as well.

felipe-lopezAlso, the Brewers are waiting to see if Felipe is a Type-A or Type-B free agent before they re-sign him. If they do end up wanting to re-sign him, it will be interesting to see if he takes it knowing Rickie will have the starting role in spring. It will also be interesting, because a trade involving Rickie suddenly is on the table. However, the Brewers will probably want him in a Craig Counsell-like role and I still believe he will be very expensive for that.

Ywashburnnoticeahoo Sports noted that Washburn might be headed back to Seattle anyway. and Jon Garland’s option was declined by LA and I hope the Brewers take an extended look at him.

Finally, Tim Lincecum’s weird hair finally makes sense.

Don’t rip me, but I had never heard of Glen Perkins before, so I looked at his stats from 2008 and 2009. Positive: He doesn’t walk a lot of guys. Negative: He just allows them to get hits. Even in 2008 when he went 12-4, he still had a .301 batting average against. In 2009, his BAA was .304.

So perhaps you can clarify. Is the trade for a starting pitcher or a batting practice pitcher?

What’s wonderful for Timmay? That it was a misdemenor amount. And really, is anyone surprised? And, does anyone care? Legalize the shit already.

    Bye JJ, it was fun

Well, the rumor was close. Carlos Gomez. People are jumping all over Melvin for this, but I don’t mind the trade. Gomez was terrible at the plate last year, but he’ll only be 24 at the start of next season. He still is super fast, plays good D and has quite a bit of upside at the plate. Besides that, people need to realize we weren’t getting a Bucholz for JJ. His stock when down a lot the last two years. Also, it opens up some salary room as the Brewers obviously won’t be resigning Cameron and likely will now allow Lopez to lead. (Gomez will occupy the CF position and likely leadoff)

I like the dynamic that Escobar and Gomez will add to the starting lineup. A Brewers team with legit speed. Not to Mention – no more Rickie in the leadoff spot. Overall, like I said, I like it.

Sad to see the kid go. But I do agree, having another base stealer on the team is great. It’s sad when Corey Hart has been your stolen base leader.

Imagine if they can figure out a way to keep Lopez. Imagine the speed.

  6. Jon Says:

The only problem is Melvin has already come out and said he wants Gomez at the bottom of the order and Rickie leading off still.

I doubt this will be true on opening day, but nonetheless Melvin may have just gone completely bats***

  7. Jon K Says:

I like the potential upside of Gomez, but it is a roll of the dice. My assumption is that JJ’s trade value must have dropped like a rock, but I’m surprised that Melvin didn’t wait a little longer into the offseason to see what else JJ could bring. Seemed like there were a few different teams that may have been interested. The speed factor in the lineup will be nice, now we just have to get Macha to start running. Should be interesting.
