InReview (9/21/09)

Weekly Record: 5-2
Current Record: 74-75
I’m introducing my own September call-ups; I’m trying out new sections for next year and seeing how they play. Let me know what scores and what sucks.
A Glance:
Monday: Suppan good, but Flippy Magoo (Dumpster Dempster) better (L)
Tuesday: Cubs get a 5 run 6th the blow the game wide open…this blows (L)
Wednesday: Alcides and Corey give Loop even more run support..can David Patten always throw against the Brewers?(W)
Thursday: Jody “Shake Ya Groove Thing” Gerut hits a grand tater..bullpen holds! (W)
Friday: Great come from behind win…McGehee deserves more pub (W)
Saturday: Prince passes Cecil (Cooper), Suppan was strong (W)
Sunday: Prince passes Burnitz, Yovani finally gets run support, but doesn’t need it as the pitching staff dominates for the sweep(W)
Likes:
Sweeping the Astros
Winning 5 in a row…but it’s a little late to finally get the hot streak
Prince Fielder breaking records and Yovani getting to 200 K’s
Dislikes:
One loss away from being mathematically eliminated
Poor Counsell finally looks tired out
I realized during the semi-empty bobblehead game on Sunday just how amazing and electric it was last September…
Good for the Week
Jody Gerut has been beaten up all year, but finally has something to smile about. This week, Jody has hit .583 with 2 home runs, 8 RBI’s and more total bases than any other player (and he played in two fewer games)
Goat for the Week
The offensive offense from the catchers…we’re pretty sure Kendall isn’t coming back, but Rivera hasn’t inspired much confidence either.

Quick Hitter:
Prince is trying to play in all 162 games…Carlos Lee was the last Brewer to do it in 2005. Prince Fielder is also trying to START every game…Richie Sexson in 2003 was the last Brewer to do that feat.
Something to Think About:
What would have happened if Prince would have had THIS year’s stats last year? What would have happened if Braun would have hit over .300 last year? What would have happened if Cameron had a full season? What would have happened if Yovani didn’t get hurt and we had the rotation of Sabathia, Sheets, Gallardo going into the playoffs? The “if’s” drive me absolutley batty.

I hadn’t even thought about how nasty the Crew could have been with all those factors from last year. Also can you imagine if Jody Gerut had the week he’s having now against the Phillies?

Imagine if this year we had even average pitching….. thats my if

How many years have we been playing the “what if” game? Honestly.
Melvin was a moron if he thought that this rotation would be “average”.
Kick Soup to the bullpen….PLEASE!

Every year, we play the “what if” game. Because we cheer for a bad baseball team. We’re Clippers fans.

I find it weird when people say its a rebuilding season…. what exactly are we rebuilding from? A wild card team that got beat in the first round is that what we hang our hat on?
September 23rd, 2009 at 12:08 pm
Well… Yes? I mean… To be honest, they’ve been rebuilding for twenty-seven years. My entire life. And, sadly, that is what we have to hang our hat on. I mean, the team put up a banner for a wildcard APPEARANCE. Where my fandom comes from, you only do banner/plaques for championships, be it NL central, Pennants, or World Series victories. It’s sad to me that the last team that I cheer for to win a title was the Admirals in 2004, and the last team to even make a championship round was the Ads in 2006. COME ON! Other than that, it was the Bulls in 98.
Well, at least hockey season starts soon.

We are all waiting for the Crew to be the next Rays, Rockies, Twins, or even the Astros. A team to come out of no where and make a run at it. In order for that to happen Milwaukee needs pitching. All of those team I listed have solid pitching.
In order to get solid pitching you have to trade away something that everyone wants…Prince Fielder. If you can get a 1 and a 5…do it. Is that even possible…a 1 and a 5?
September 23rd, 2009 at 1:53 pm
And when you trade away Prince… You trade away the ONE consistent hitter on the team. I know everyone loves Braun (I do, too), but… Prince is better. Period…. And you won’t get a 1 for him, because the team you’re trading to KNOWS that the Brewers have to trade him….
But, I guess with better pitching, they could grind out a few more games… I mean, look at all those 2-1 games Yo won this year… Wait? You mean he lost them? No run support, because the opposing team only had to worry about Prince and Braun and that was it? No, it’s going to take more than some better pitching. Need an overhaul. Last year was the best shot at doing anything with the core of Fielder/Braun…. Or, I could be way off base and full of shit. Who knows?

You do NOT get rid fo Prince Fielder You can replace and get 5-10 more wins its harder to replace however many RBI’s he comes up with.. D’amico….. u are off base
September 23rd, 2009 at 3:42 pm
D’Amico – I also think it’s funny that the Brewers hung up a banner for the wild card
Also, I agree that you don’t have to trade Prince away. In fact, I hope they make every effort to keep him. Prince has been everything we ever thought he would be and more this year. Everyone can look at his stats, but he’s also been hustling all year long and for a guy that big, it’s a huge compliment. Prince helps Braun by giving him protection and Braun helps Prince by taking the load of “it’s up to you at the plate otherwise no one else is going to do it” off his shoulders. It’s going to be near impossible to re-sign him and it’s going to be just as hard to replace what he does/means for the team. Look at San Fran. Yes they made a run, but because they didn’t have enough offense they faltered even with one of the best pitching tandems in the league. I’m not saying the Brewers are SF because Braun has more offense than any current Giant, but I am saying that you can’t sacrifice most of your offense for pitching.
I would be very happy to see JJ and someone else go to Boston for Clay Buchholz. For some reason I don’t understand, Clay has been in every Boston trade rumor; it seems like they want to get rid of him! I think a young tandem of Clay and Yo would be great (but it probably won’t happen).
P.S. – I still don’t hate J.J.

plus, c’mon…he’s the heir, heir to the throne
September 23rd, 2009 at 11:04 pm
Kade-
All your base are belong to us.
Additionally, I’m not off base. At all. Fielder WILL be traded in the next two years, which makes me sad, because, as I stated, he’s the only guy this year who has really carried his weight. But dem’s da facts. They will not be able afford to pay his salary, as, much like with CC, a $25-30m salary would make this perpetually rebuilding team more handcuffed my college girlfriend. BTW… it would take Fielder to get a Buchholz. Not a JJ. If you offered the Red Sawks JJ for Clay Bucholz, they’d laugh at you. It’d be like if two years ago the Padres offered Khalil Greene for Yo, or even Parra. Because that’s who JJ is. Khalil Greene. And Kade- The way this seasons going, with the hitting and pitching the way it’s been all year…. If they added 5-10 wins, they’d still be a disappointing team. And would be worse than the Cardinals.
Oh, and Macha must be fired. Melvin, maybe, too. The way the Hardy and Gamel situations were handled this year was detrimental to the team, in both the long and short term. If you’re going to trade someone, you don’t do everything in your power to make them look worse. (More so the Gamel situation.)
September 24th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
You don’t get rid of the season RBI leader period until your hand is forced…. I realize that its a risk and that you may not get anything for him PLAY FOR THIS YEAR! Like I always say I am tired of rebuilding I am tired of waiting do whatever u can to try and win the damn thing.
September 25th, 2009 at 9:00 am
Kade-
I assume you mean next year, yeah? Cause this year’s a wash.
And trust me, I’m tired of rebuilding, as well. And I have no desire to see prince go; I’d rather lose Braun than Prince. All that I’ve said is that he (prince) will be traded in the next two years. It sucks, but it’s fact.
September 25th, 2009 at 10:47 am
I would mauybe argue that if we had Gallardo all of last year we don’t sign Sabathia…
