Uecker Announces LaRoche Trade to Pirates Faithful

In the sixth inning of this afternoon’s ballgame, Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit walked to the plate to face Brewers reliever Todd Coffey after Garrett Jones hit a two-out double. The game was knotted at 7 and Pirates fans near the Brewers’ radio booth were calling for a pinch-hit appearance by first baseman Adam LaRoche. Unbeknownst to them, however, the elder LaRoche had been traded to the Red Sox shortly before the game, so he was obviously not available. Brewers radio announcer and good samaritan Bob Uecker decided to take a pause from the broadcast to let the fans in on the deal:
Say what you want about Bob’s penchant for going into the “Get Up! Get Up!” call a tad too early once or twice a week or the occasional game where he’ll use more air time on stories than play-by-play, especially if the Brewers are behind by a few runs, but I never want to listen to a Brewers game without Ueck behind the mic. I doubt I’ve ever gone a whole game without him making me laugh out loud at least once.

Oh man. I love Ueck. He drives me nuts from time to time but he definitely makes me laugh every time I listen.

Did you hear the one of game 2 where he talked about a bird in the outfield for about a full ining and how he recognized it from the night b4 and kept talking about it eating bugs

Ueck also made a nice comment yesterday regarding Kendall. I believe he said that Kendall would be make a great hood ornament on a demolition derby car. I would have to concur.
