In the News (5/13)

Tuesday’s Game: Brewers 6, Marlins 3
Record: 19-14, Second Place
Tuesday’s Game
- The Brewers used the home run ball to power past the Marlins on Tuesday 6-3.
- Prince Fielder (twice), Rickie Weeks and Mike Cameron supplied all of the scoring offense with home runs.
- Manny Parra looked pretty bad in the first two innings, but rebounded nicely to pitch six innings for the quality start and the win. The Brewers starting pitchers continue to get it done.
Brewers News
- The Commissioner’s office is going to review the Braun/Dempster incident.
- That news surprises Cubs manage Lou Piniella. Look, I personally doubt Braun was intentionally hit in the head, but obviously the incident is going to be looked at by the league. If it were his player, Piniella would be looking for the same attention from the league.
- Braun’s on-the-field demeanor continues to be dissected. I’ve said it before, but I don’t understand why. Yeah, he’s cocky. How come the countless other players around the league aren’t questioned nearly this much? I don’t recall dozens of blogs talking about Aramis Ramirez walking halfway to first on doubles.
- It will be huge for the Brewers if Ryan Braun and Rickie Weeks can keep up their current pace. Each is on pace to drive in over 100 runs and score over 100 runs.
- The Brewers signed utility infielder/outfielder Frank Catalanotto to a minor-league deal.
- The Brewers are one of the few teams in the majors whose attendance is actually up from last year. Good work Brewers’ fans.
- Fox Sports has a story on Brewers reliever Mitch Stetter.
- Check out this video of a 200 lb working replica of the Milwaukee County Stadium scoreboard.
- Tuesday’s Frosty Mug from Brew Crew Ball.
- The Hardball Times analyzes Yonvani Gallardo’s young career.
- Quevedo at the Buffet has a post to put things into prospective for Brewer fans.
- Really? Why?
Minor Leagues
- Who’s hot and who’s not for the Nashville Sounds?
- Speaking of…Tony Gwynn hit a home run! Yes, really. Now it’s time to bring him up. Wait…no.
- The Appleton Post-Crescent’s Brett Christopherson asks if you’re disappointed in the Timber Rattlers start. I’m certainly a bit disappointed, especially since they started the season with a series sweep; however, the season is young and so are the guys on the team. I still think they have the guys to be a really good team.
- While the Brewers low-A affiliate struggles in Appleton, the high-A affiliate Brevard County Manatees have been on fire. They currently have the best record in the league and lead the North Division by five games.
- Tuesday’s T-Rats game was rained out.
- Manatee’s 2B Eric Farris is Between the Green Pillars’ Prospect of the Week.
NL Central
- The Cubs beat the Padres, Pirates beat the Cardinals, Astros lost to the Rockies and the Reds beat the Diamondbacks.
- The Chicago Sun-Times has a story about the Cubs bullpen. Of course they manage to include not getting Jake Peavy as an excuse.
- Are Cubs fans already mailing it in? I love it. It’s only just over a month into the season. The Cubs will go on some sort of hot streak in the next month or so and the same fans will be predicting a World Series appearance and win.
- Cardinals LF Chris Duncan is having a productive season thus far.
- Cubs blog Goat Riders of the Apocalypse has me laughing at their NL Central Power Rankings. The typical Cubs fan doucheness superiority complex and endless supply of excuses always give me a good laugh. They did get numbers one, five and six right though.
- This just in – the Pirates are bad at baseball.
Other News
- The Nationals Ryan Zimmerman increased his hitting streak to 30 games. I like Zimmerman and find myself routing for him.
- This is funny…and/or pathetic.

I on the other hand dont want Zimmerman to get it.. maybe if he was a better player i was cheering when utley was going for it… Zimmerman just isn’t a good enough player to have such a great record.

Zimmerman hasn’t been good in his young career because of injuries. He’s actually a very good player. As long as he stays healthy, he’ll be a top 3B in the league.

Molitor’s streak hit 39. There’s no way I’ll be cheering for Zimmerman if he gets to 38 (which is the number that Rollins ended up at in 2006).
Zimmerman might be good, but he’s no DiMaggio. I agree with Kade. I’d rather he not break the record. (And he won’t anyway…)

If he gets it, obviously he’s good enough. 30 games is no fluke and for you to suggest otherwise is…stupid. That logic makes no sense. He can hit.
How did the record even come into this conversation anyway? I certainly mentioned nothing about the record. I simply said I was rooting for him. He won’t even come close to DiMaggio.

Joe, your response to my allegedly stupid comment is stupid.
Where did I say Zimmerman’s streak was a fluke?

We are all stupid

Sorry, not stupid. It doesn’t make sense not to want someone to break it because they aren’t “good”…as Kade stated. He obviously is good. If he breaks the record or even comes close, that shows he’s even that much better. Like I said above, I think Zimmerman will be one of the best 3B for a long time. It’s just too bad I didn’t listen to my gut on fantasy draft day. I wouldn’t be stuck with terrible Garrett Atkins.
