Hardy than expected: Arbitration Standstill as Hearing Nears
Just a brief update on the progress (or lack there of) in the contract talks between the Brewers and shortstop J.J. Hardy, who had a breakout 2007 campaign with 26 HR, 80 RBI and a whopping 164 hits (trailed Prince Fielder by one hit for team lead).
Hardy, who is in his first year of salary arbitration, requested $3 million and some change for the 2008 season. The Brewers countered with a figure of $2.4 million. Reportedly, no discussions between the two sides have taken place.
He and pitcher Dave Bush are the only two arbitration-eligible players who have yet to come to terms.
If no agreement is reached, Hardy's arbitration hearing is to take place on February 18.
